CUP NOODLES is the world's first instant noodle that can be made in its own packaged cup. Consumers just need to boil water, and pour it into the cup and wait for three minutes until it is ready to eat. Cup Noodles is made by Nissin, also the world's first company to produce instant noodles. The CUP NOODLES MUSEUM is located at Minato-Mirai in Yokohama, Japan. Here, you are able to experience the production process of Cup Noodles, as well as Nissin's famous Chicken Ramen noodles.
The History cube
The museum itself is divided into three main floors. The ground floor being the ticketing floor and the souvenir shop. At the souvenir shop, you are able to purchase Nissin's various flavours of iinstant noodles which can be great for gifts as they have assorted packages. On the first floor, there is a hall of fame of every single instant noodle Nissin has ever created since it's very first product. It's a wonderful cubed area where you can see the entire timeline of noodles since the 70's. On the same floor, you can also observe some of Nissin's product theory of thinking outside the box.
My Cup Noodle Factory
On the second floor, you can find two 'factories'. The first one is the CUP NOODLE FACTORY. This is where you can create your own designed Cup Noodle, including the cup design, and every ingredient that goes into the cup. You are first asked to purchase a cup from the vending machines, followed by a sanitisation of your hands. Then you are escorted to the cup designing area where you are given many marker pens to start drawing on your cup. After you have completed your design, you are then asked to go to the factory area where staff members will assist you with creating your very own Cup Noodles. You can choose one soup base (from a choice of Original, Seafood, Curry) and four different ingredients. Your cup is then sealed and packaged via a vacuum sealing process. Once your cup is finished, you can put your Cup Noodle into a balloon strap to bring home.
Chicken Ramen Factory
The other factory that is available is the Chicken Ramen Factory. Chicken Ramen, as explained earlier, is Japan's popular instant noodle that has a soup base of chicken stock. When this was first introduced, it was a first of its kind and was a great hit. In this factory, you will be joining a class of people and make your own instant noodle from scratch - that's making the dough from scratch until it is packaged! You will be taught through a lesson together in pairs when creating the dough. Once the dough is complete, you will then shape them into mounds which the staff members will help you deep fry them afterwards. Once fried, you will then be packaging this into your own designed package, once again done with marker pens.
The CUP NOODLE MUSEUM is a definite visit when visiting Tokyo. Though it is a distance from Tokyo (around 2 hours by train) it is a definitive stop by when visiting the Yokohama area, and the Kamakura attractions. It was an extremely amazing experience to be able to learn the history of the worlds first instant noodle company, as well as being able to create your very own instant noodles from scratch. It's a fun attractions for all ages, and the great thing is that you can bring back something tangible as a memory. Keep in mind that the noodles you make have a best before date of a month since production so it's good to at least taste them and keep your packaging on display afterwards.
